  1. Organizing Your Laundry Room

    January 17, 2013 by BlairStover

A well fitted laundry room helps you take care of your family’s clothes with more practicality. In the bargaining process of things, you can save on water and electricity while you do it. Here are some tips, provided by Blair Stover that will help you organize your laundry room:

    ·      Have buckets handy: two dark for cleaning the house and two clear for washing clothes

    ·      Dust mop: to reach those difficult places and it is ideal to dust books, chandeliers, paintings and curtains

    ·      Keep cleaning products together by type of use. For instance, package up things that you use to clean the kitchen in one area and things that you use to clean the bathroom in another.

    ·      Leave open boxes and cleaning materials out of reach of children and pets.

    ·      Place items used less often in a closet

    ·      Install a rack near the ironing board and if you have one keep the ironing board tucked behind the door

    ·      Have two laundry baskets for dirty clothes, one for whites and one for darks

    ·      Hang mops and brooms on hooks

    ·      Touch up closets, washer dryer and the wall by cleaning

Now would be a good opportunity to save some money on electricity and water.

    ·      Wait and gather enough clothing and wash everything at the same time

    ·      Let things soak in the tank or bucket and use the same water to scrub if you are cleaning something other than clothes

    ·      Just go to an open faucet when rinsing the soapy clothes. You never want to throw your clothes into the washer for another cycle

    ·      Take advantage of maximum capacity when using the washer and dryer

    ·      Use the correct dosages of washing powder and fabric softener

    ·      Clean the washing machine and dryer filters as needed to prevent overworking the machines.

  2. How to Create a Perfect Nursery

    January 13, 2013 by BlairStover

Whenever a couple is planning to have a baby, it can be the most nervous time of their lives. However, it can also be the happiest time as well because there is so much to look forward to. Some families get bent out of shape though because they do not know where to begin, especially when it comes to creating the perfect nursery. As Blair Stover points out below, this wonderful time is exciting but it can be tough if you don’t know where to start. Here are a few tips to get you started.

    ·      First step is to choose the color palette you want. Just because you have a boy doesn’t mean you have to paint the room blue. Green, yellow and darker blue are great colors to go with.

    ·      The next step is designing the floor plan. You always want the room’s flow to be defining everything. You should have a crib, rocking chair and changing table at the least. But other things that are nice to have are things like play areas, additional storage, shelving areas and sitting areas. Make sure you place lighting in certain areas because newborn’s love the dark.

    ·      Your biggest task will be furniture hunting and it will be the most overwhelming too. This part of the process is the hardest because there are so many things to choose from and this isn’t including accessories. If you have the chance to working with interior designers, it would be a huge advantage.

  3. How to Incorporate Red into Your Bathroom

    January 7, 2013 by BlairStover

Bathrooms are the one spot in a home that everyone should be able to feel comfortable and not have to feel bad about it. However, there are very few bathrooms that give off a feeling of ambiance that would make a person want to spend more than 15 or 20 minutes in it. Little do people know that the colors placed in your bathroom can set the whole tone of things and, as Blair Stover points out below, red is one of the best colors that will make your bathroom come alive and stand out. The only key is to incorporate the color without overdoing it.

    ·      Bright Red Countertops- Many people may not like the color red, however it could still work in your bathroom. Try using it as a countertop first because the horizontal plane will not catch your eye like a vertical surface will.

    ·      Mixing Black and White with Red- If you know anything about colors, you know that one of the best colors that mix with black and white is red. Most bathrooms are white to begin with so just incorporate some black and red in there and see what happens.

    ·      Scarlet Splashes- Tiles come in virtually every bathroom now so this would be a great time to throw in a few tiles of red in with your other tiles.

    ·      Bathtubs that Stand Out- Having an ordinary bathtub is okay but why not have something that really catches the eye, like a claw-footed tub that is 100 years old or a remake of one?

  4. How to Create the Perfect Family Sitting Room

    January 2, 2013 by BlairStover

As a family seeks to create the ideal room to enjoy, they quickly realize there are numerous options which contribute to the end result. These range from the sort of sofa, the color scheme, the entertainment system, etc. Each will have an impact on the overall feel of the room. Follow these suggestions from Blair Stover to create the perfect family room that will assuredly become the most popular room in the house.

Begin by considering the size of the room you are working with. Whether the room is large or more compact, it can be designed in a way that will allow a feeling of comfort rather than feeling cramped. So, if the room is a bit smaller you will want to steer toward furniture that is more compact yet fully functional, like two-seater sofas and armchairs. Thus, you will expose more floor space which will create the illusion of a bigger room. Also, consider mounting the television on the wall rather than taking up additional space with a TV stand.

Stick with a neutral color scheme. This will encourage an atmosphere of relaxation which will be inviting for the family to spend evenings together. This also can make a smaller room appear larger with an airy feeling and by radiating light. A larger room can be made to feel cozier by using darker colors.

Many homes nowadays have open-plan living areas which incorporate the kitchen, living room and dining room. If this is true of your home, be sure to consider a dining table in your furnishings. Dining sets are available in many options and for any size family.

Make the room perfect for your family by adding personal touches. Incorporate souvenirs, family photos and heirlooms into the room. Consider using your children’s art as the featured pieces for the walls.

How have you made your living or family sitting room the best room in the house? Share below in the comments to inspire others.
